    Shiitake (Lentinus edodes), like reishi and maitake, is one of the best oriental medicinal mushrooms, known for its health benefits. Shiitake is considered one of the fungi that can effectively combat certain diseases, specifically cancer.

    The most interesting property of shiitake is its ability to enhance and modulate the immune system, thanks to the presence of a polysaccharide called beta-D glucan, lentin. This polysaccharide has the ability to increase interferon levels, thus inhibiting the growth of viruses and tumors, and stimulate NK cells, macrophages, and T lymphocytes. Shiitake lentin demonstrates antitumor activity in cases of colon, stomach, breast, lung, and other cancers.
