    NOW® Probiotic Defense™ is a combination of "friendly" probiotic bacteria, including some commonly found in soil, blended with a fermented food base.

    It contains 13 active bacterial strains and is designed to support gastrointestinal health and immune system function. It also includes fructooligosaccharides to support the healthy growth of Acidophilus and Bifidus.

    NOW® Probiotic Defense™ is stable at room temperature and does not require refrigeration. These so-called "friendly" bacteria, also called probiotics or eubiotics, are the ones that provide the most benefits to humans. These bacteria produce B vitamins, including biotin (B1), niacin (B3), riboflavin (B2), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), cobalamin (B12), folic acid, vitamin A, and vitamin K.

    The term probiotic has been used to refer to supplements containing Lactobacillus, either in powder or capsule form. The two most important groups of flora are Lactobacillus, found primarily in the small intestine, and Bifidobacteria, which primarily inhabit the colon.

    Diet plays an important role in the predominance of one bacteria over another. They help to increase the body's resistance.
