    Horsetail is Latin for Equisetum arvense L. It is a perennial herbaceous plant native to Europe, North Africa, South Asia, and the Americas in moist, shady, clayey-siliceous soils. Equisetum is the only genus in the Equisetaceae family, described by Linnaeus in 1753, using the sterile aerial parts.
